Medieval tombs and brasses form part of the rich treasury of art and sculpture in England’s churches. This illustrated talk will look at their variety of forms, how they changed over the period, and what they tell us about those commemorated. Many examples will be from Dorset and surrounding counties.

Nigel Saul is Emeritus Professor of Medieval History, Royal Holloway, University of London.   Author of Richard II (1997); English Church Monuments in the Middle Ages: History and Representation (2009); For Honour and Fame: Chivalry in England, 1066-1500 (2011).
