Patrick Francis has expanded his detailed study of the 1200 Shirburnians who served in the Great War to include all those from the town who served. He has explored their letters, diaries, scholarly historical accounts, memoirs and novels as well as the stories of those left behind, their families, friends and teachers.

Patrick Francis is a teacher of history at Sherborne School.
