Medieval Music and Instruments

by Jonathan Weeks

Tuesday 8 December 2015
weeks

Jonathan Weeks has been collecting and playing medieval musical instruments since studying Archaeology at Reading University. He first became interested in them through their depictions in medieval art and the pioneering work of David Munrow and the Early Music Consort.

He has been collecting these instruments in modern reproduction form for 35 years, using information gleaned from medieval sculpture and paintings or from present-day folk survivals in Eastern Europe, Latin America or the Middle East.

Jon will play the pipe and tabor and other instruments from his collection with an amusing commentary on the music and instruments themselves.
