An introduction to the early history of Exeter Cathedral, from its origins in the division of the see of Sherborne in 909 to the end of the twelfth century.   What did Exeter’s churchmen know about the history of their see, and its place in the wider world?

Sarah Hamilton is Professor of Medieval History at the University of Exeter.   Her books include The Practice of Penance, 900-1050 and Church and People in the Medieval West, 900-1200.
