Wednesday 5th July 2017

The coach will drive first to the Manor of Sand, which is in Sidbury 3 miles north of Sidmouth, arriving around 9.50.  Sand was built for the Huyshe family in 1560 and has been their home ever since. Set in a tranquil valley garden, the house was finely restored and extended in the early 20th century. The group will be divided into two for coffee  and Stella and Stephen Huyshe–Shires will share with you their trials and delights of living in such a house.

After the tour the bus will drop you in Sidmouth with free time for lunch picking you up at 13.30.

A 20 minute drive will take us to Cadhay Manor near Ottery St Mary. Listed by Country Life as one of the top ten manor houses in the country, the house built in 1550 has been beautifully restored by the owner Rupert Thistlethwaite including contemporary furniture of his own design. The house is constructed around the central Court of the Sovereigns and boasts a Great Hall and a magnificent Georgian dining room. An unusual and very attractive garden has been created as a place to relax. After a tour of about 1h.30m. and a delicious tea the coach will leave for home around 16.30.
