Wednesday 24th May 2017

The coach will drive to St John’s Street in Salisbury dropping us opposite the White Hart where we shall have coffee. At 10.00 the group will be divided into 2 each with a maximum of 15. Our  guided tour  of the main historical sites other than the Cathedral will last 1hr 30min. Distances are not great and there are many historical buildings. After the tour members will have until 13.15 to sightsee and have lunch.

The Coach will return to St John’s Street to take us Mottisfont, a former Augustinian Priory largely destroyed by Henry VIII. Rebuilt as an Elizabethan Manor and later extended in the 18th century, it passed through various families before becoming in 1930 the home of the artistic Russell family with their connections to Rex Whistler and the Bloomsbury Set. The rooms in the house show the family life at that time. You will have a 40 minute introductory tour of the exterior, telling you the history and pointing out various artistic exhibits in the garden including the Walled Garden. From 14.45 to 16.45 you will have time to see the house (guides in each room), the Shell Heritage Art Exhibition and the garden. A cream tea will be available in the Restaurant from 15.45 to 16.45. The Coach will leave around 16.50.
