Jewels of Somerset

Thursday 7th July 2016

The coach will drive to the small town of Wiveliscombe in the Brendon Hills famous for the fascinating history of many of its old buildings, arriving around 9.30. After coffee at the Courthouse, we will be joined at 10.00 by the Somerset County Archaeologist Bob Croft, who with his colleague Pauline Homeshaw will take us on a 1½ hour tour, bringing to life many tales of what happened in times long past. You will then have free time to buy your own lunch and to explore other areas not covered in Bob's talk. At 13.15 the coach will leave to take us to Cothay Manor. There the formidable owner Mary Anne Robb will take us on a tour of this medieval house much of it little changed from the 15th or 16th centuries. There will be time also to see the attractive gardens in part designed as individual rooms. At 16.00 a cream tea will await us, before we rejoin the coach at 16.30 for our journey home.

Time of departure from Culverhayes Car Park                    8.00
