Talks
Sherborne and the First World War
by Patrick Francis
Date: Sunday 21 January 2024
The author of Vivat Shirburnia traces the surprisingly wide-ranging, often tragic, impact of the Great War on the local communities of Sherborne Town and Sherborne School.
Patrick Francis has expanded his detailed study of the 1200 Shirburnians who served in the Great War to include all those from the town who served. He has explored their letters, diaries, scholarly historical accounts, memoirs and novels as well as the stories of those left behind, their families, friends and teachers.
Patrick Francis is a teacher of history at Sherborne School.
