The Story of Tea

The talk will explore the social history of tea from the 17th to the late 19th century, focusing on the impact it had on the development of ceramics. The speaker will look at the changes in culture and etiquette that gave us not only our national drink but the teapot and the teacup and saucer.

Nick Berthoud is a dealer and collector of 18th and 19th century ceramics with a particular interest in late 18th century industrial items. He lectures regularly and is a member of the English Ceramic Circle, the committee of the Northern Ceramic Society and Chairman of New Hall and Friends.
