Frances Hatch

‘Our Common Ground’

Artist Frances Hatch speaks about her experience of painting, particularly in the Dorset landscape: ‘Place provides pigment and tools. Weather, tide and season animate, reveal and conceal. I document, collect, participate, play. Materials shift hourly, daily, yearly and over millennia. Work is generated en plein air, site materials enter and inhabit the work. Each piece is particular and provisional. Cellophane sits with the Cenozoic.’

Frances was born in the Isle of Ely and currently lives in Weymouth where she is inspired by Portland and Chesil Beach. She exhibits throughout the UK and was awarded The Shenzhen International Watercolour Biennial Prize by the Royal Institute
