by Dr Mark Smith
Date: Thursday 12 January 2017
A new interpretation of the local impact of war on the Church as seen through the eyes of the clergy
While the impact of the First World War on the religious beliefs and practice of soldiers at the front has been subject to significant study, the effect of wartime conditions on the Church at home has received much less attention. This talk, uses evidence from Oxfordshire to investigate the local impact of war on the Church as seen through the eyes of the clergy, revealing new insights into the experience of parishioners and the preoccupations of the clergy during the conflict.
